Georgia Clean Air Force (GCAF) and the Environmental Protection Division (EPD) along with the State of Georgia have mandated that emission testing be done on a yearly basis. This is to help reduce the number of heavy polluting vehicles on the roads.
The three most recent model year vehicles are exempt from being required to have an emission inspection test done.
For registration in 2011, this includes all 2009 and newer model year vehicles (2009, 2010, and 2011) are currently exempt until January of 2012. 2012 year will require that 2009 model year cars have their emissions inspection test done.
In addition currently 1986 and older vehicles are not require to have an emissions test any longer. They now fall under the 25 yr and older status. They are now deemed classic cars.
